THERE'S A METHOD TO THE MADNESS

January 11, 2017

Although this is a winter preggo look, I think if anything this outfit camouflages the bump. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing when it is this darn cold. We’re keeping baby and mama warm through the clever, madness of layering.

I feel like a lot of people are mystified by the layering technique and often times this causes them to be super safe (i.e. a tank top under a sweater). But if you live in a tundra like myself, layering is everything in order to keep warm and on point. This outfit is a perfect example of how layering allows me to wear what I want, without freaking my tail off.

Let’s start with the focal point of this look, which is a printed romper (YES! in the middle of winter in Canada). Now in order to make this work, I had to be creative. I could have easily layered this over a pair of tights and called it a day but weather was not permitting that noise so I decided to work in one of my wardrobe staples, waxed denim. And it worked! Because the romper is flowy and the jeans are tight, the balance of the layered pieces was kind of a match made in heaven.

Then we move onto the ‘accessories’, which I decided to play up a bit too, go big or go home when it comes to fashion. And bigger it does not get then a fabulous teddy coat that does not only keep you cozy but just has this air of like dope, chic, awesomeness.

And to bring it all over the edge, velvet! These booties are from Zara and I really have no words. And my Gucci Marmont bag as the icing to this look.

So needless to say, layering is more than putting one piece atop another. Experiment layering patterns, textures, fabrics. Try the unexpected because you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the outcome of the look. xo!
